Is the clutch throwout bearing the ST3 & ST3s the same as the other STs?

-- All dry clutch models 86-Current share common throwout bearing (Ducati pn 702.5.016.1A) and like clutch components...

In 2005 ST4s and ST4s ABS and ST3 converted to wet clutch. 2006 on the ST3 and ST3s ABS continued as wet clutch models. The wet clutch model throwout bearing part number is 702.5.047.1A Bearing.

Thanks to Wolfie, Pyoungbl, dharhay, slewofdamascus, lalirra for this info

  • (25mm ID, 47mm OD, 12mm width)
  • (6xxx) means they have deep groove
  • 2RS1 means double seal (seals on both sides), grease filled.
  • C3 means 1 step larger internal clearance than 'normal'. This is critical for high speed applications where the ball bearings get hot and expand. With the C3 option that extra tolerance is taken after the bearings warm up. Without it you reduce the life of the bearing!
  • LLU denotes sealed on both sides NTN claim superior seal to others
  • The steering head bearing is a one off. It is made by SNR a French Company & as far as I can tell fits a Renault car & thats about it, do not know the model.
The Japanese Koyo is the same bearing for the steering head.
  • The swingarm bearings, if you have a workshop manual, says just knock them out with a hammer & drift, not so. You must pull them out from each side, I used a Sykes Pickavent special bearing tool with a slide hammer. Because the bearing is so small 16mm id x 20mm od, you have very little lip & there are two each side, pushed together with a oil seal on the inside & outside. These seals are to stop engine oil leaking from the engine,as you will see the cases are open to the swingarm shaft. You CANNOT push the bearings in as they will fall into the cases & from memory there is a very small lip on the inside of the cases where the bearings sit. I have pics of the tool my best mate made to pull the new seals & bearings into place etc, if you require I will try to post these into file.
